MMT: Forearm

Pronation

  • Start Position: Client is in the seated position with the humerus adducted to their side. Elbow is flexed to a 90 degree angle with forearm in the supinated position.
  • Stabilize: Distal end of the humerus bone.
  • Instruction: “Turn your palm to the floor, and do not let me turn it back over.”
  • Resistance: The therapist’s hand encircles the client’s wrist from the volar side with the index finger (sometimes middle finger as well) extended along the forearm. Force is applied in the direction of supination.

Supination

  • Resistance: The therapist’s hand encircles the client’s wrist from the volar side with the index finger (sometimes middle finger as well) extended along the forearm. Force is applied in the direction of pronation.
