This is an oculomotor assessment for visual pursuit.
Tools
- Dowel rod/colored tip pen, or some other visual stimuli
Assessment
- Hold stimuli 16 inches from the client’s face
- Tell the client to follow the target with their eyes and to not take their eyes off of the target
- Move target in a pattern
- Like a compass, clockwise or counterclockwise motions, the letter “H,” or a mix of more than one, for example

Documentation
- Observations related to whether the client can maintain accurate focus or if they move their head instead of their eyes. Jumping of eyes is also noteworthy.
- Intact or impaired?
