
Assessing a Client’s Temperature
- Tools:
- Digital forehead thermometer
- Steps:
- Seat client comfortably
- Take thermometer and place it facing the client’s forehead
- Hold in place and pull the trigger to scan the client’s temperature
- When the thermometer is finished measuring, document the client’s temperature as _____ degrees (°F)
- Temperature can also be retrieved:
- Orally
- Rectally
- Axillary
- Tympanic (Ear)
- Normal Values:
- Average normal body temperature: 98.6°F
- Normal range between 97°F to 99°F
- Temperature above 100.4°F indicates a fever
