Durable Medical Equipment for Toileting

Common durable medical equipment for toileting are the raised toilet seat and the 3-in-1 commode. A raised toilet seat is usually made out of plastic and can include armrests or a backrest if desired. A client sits on this as they would any other toilet seat and can use the armrests to help stand up or sit down. This device is useful especially for a client that has hip issues or a past surgery and needs to maintain a certain hip angle. It is also easier on the quadriceps muscles for the client.

Additionally, the 3-in-1 commode can be used as a raised toilet seat, a separate toileting commode, or a shower chair. The armrests can be used for added stability for standing and sitting. Usually, this device is used by clients that have moderate to severe mobility impairments. Clients with the same impairments as those that would benefit from the raised toilet seat can use these. Because this device serves many functions, it can be a wise choice for someone living at home or in a tight area. It may also serve as a bedside commode, which is especially helpful for someone with very limited mobility and spends much of their time in bed or has to use the bathroom throughout the night.
